Press Release: HITEC Power Protection endorses HVO as an alternative fuel

In order to reduce CO2 emissions alternative fuel concepts for Dynamic Rotary UPS (DRUPS) solutions are becoming ever more important. Recognizing this, HITEC will further support its clients in achieving their Sustainability Goals by offering Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) fuel compatible DRUPS solutions. HVO is a renewable alternative to diesel fuel that can be used in the majority of HITEC’s new and existing applications.

HITEC’s PowerPRO product range offers DRUPS units from 400 kW to 3 MW that are specifically designed for the continual power support of diverse business critical applications and vital industrial processes. HITEC’s continual challenge is to deliver innovations for its DRUPS solutions which ensure maximum performance and environmental compatibility. To address the increasing complications associated with fossil diesel fuel use HITEC has thoroughly evaluated sustainable, synthetic fuels, such as HVO. HVO is the first commercially available fuel that allows combustion engines to operate without significant environmental impact. As a result of HITEC’s extensive in-house testing the vast majority of units within the PowerPRO product range can now operate on a largely climate-neural basis.

HVO currently represents the most straightforward and cost-effective means for the UPS industry to move away from carbon rich fossil fuel use. It generates fewer emissions than fossil diesel fuel, and during the life cycle of a product HVO can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90%. With the expected life-span of a HITEC Dynamic UPS system being in excess of 25 years, the significant emission reduction available from using HVO is particularly relevant. Such equipment longevity has also led to the development of HITEC’s ‘HVO Fuel Replacement Service’ where existing installations can be tested and validated for use with HVO.
